Safety Training Program
Why You Need A Safety Training Program
Most companies need some sort of safety training program. In some industries, it's obvious why you need a safety training program, but in others, it's not. Let's say you have a small business in which most of your employees are at a desk using a computer all day, and maybe even a phone. You (and your employees) could benefit from a safety training program in ergonomics. This way you can avoid losing employees to carpal tunnel syndrome. They could also benefit from a safety training program that outlines what to do in the event of a fire, a tornado or any other kind of disaster.
A safety training program can prevent any company in any industry from experiencing workman's comp insurance going up due to employee injury, as well as the downtime of being short one employee.
How to Get A Safety Training Program
Okay, you've made the decision to enact a safety training program. This is a very responsible move on your part. Way to protect your business! Now you just have to figure out how to implement it. There are lots of ways to do this:
- Hire a training department--but that's costly.
- Hire an outside safety training company come in and give safety training presentations--but that won't work when you have new hires.
- Send employees to classes on safety, but that, too, can be costly.
- Buy some safety training DVDs and have your employees watch them, then have them sign a waiver acknowledging that they watched them, and/or...
- ...make a training manual and distribute it. (This is usually a good idea to do in addition to the DVD or a training presentation. Then you have something you can refer to later, if necessary.)
