Protecting Kids From Online Predators

Back in the day, the rules were simple: Do not talk to strangers. Do not accept rides from strangers or take candy from them. Don't open the door when you're home alone, and in some cases, Don't answer the phone if your parents are not home. Back then, simple meant safe. But with the advancement of technology, it's a whole different ball game. Now, not only do you have to worry about school yard predators, but now, online predators. And online predators are a little more tricky to recognize and stop. But there are a few tips that can make your child's time online be a lot safer. But you, as a parent, have to enforce these tips and rules.

More Tips to Protect Against Online Predators

Here are some more tips to help parents protect their children online:

Make sure your kids know that you have the right to monitor their computer activity and if you suspect any funny business from either them or who they are talking to, you reserve the right to randomly check up on their use and revoke their privileges.

Do not allow your children to have more than one e-mail account. And insist that you have their passwords. If they refuse, take away their privileges. They may not like it now, but it's for their own good.

Tell your children to immediately notify you if a stranger sends them a message either through e-mail or Instant Messenger.

Sit down at the computer with your child and see who their online friends are.

When it comes to safety against online predators, you can never be too careful. Take the proper precautions and keep you and your kids safe. Don't let your children become a victim of online predators. Stay safe.
