Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Wilma 2005: Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina -- Aftermath

One of the worst natural disasters to hit U.S. soil in history, Hurricane Katrina, in only a few hours, destroyed whole cities and towns, bringing parts of the Gulf states to a screeching halt. What was left behind was nothing short of horrific. Debris, and bodies of both humans and animals floated aimlessly through what used to be the streets of Louisiana and Mississippi. It was as bad a tragedy as anyone could have imagined. Like the Bible, New Orleans and other cities were washed away, leaving behind a surviving few. Now, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the few who were spared, must wrestle with the task of rebuilding an already close-to-destitute town and surrounding areas.

"We didn't realize just how bad hurricane Katrina was going to be. It's a good thing we evacuated when we did. We lost our house and everything else, but at least we have our lives, that's all that matters. I hope no one will ever have to go through a hurricane as bad as Hurricane Katrina ever again. We're just happy to be alive, and we hope that everyone who survived the hurricane realizes how lucky they are. Even though it seems like all hope is lost, at least we're all alive." Marsha

With Hurricane Katrina, many prepared, but unfortunately these cities were not ready. Everything that could have gone wrong, did. And now it's up to the residents and the government to rebuild these cities back to greatness. It promises to be a long journey, but one that everyone is willing to take together.

The lesson from all of this: Be prepared. Even if you think your best is not good enough, be prepared. it's better to be ove-rprepared than to be sorry. We hope everyone takes away a valuable lesson from this storm.
