Contaminated flood waters can lead to a greater possibility of infection. There may even be bacteria and E. coli and other diseases lurking.
Do not go back to disaster areas. You may put yourself and others at risk There still may be dangers of flash flooding, mudslides, debris, etc. Let rescue and disaster crews do their job.
Stay away from flooded buildings. Sinking and other dangerous situations may arise. And there may be downed power lines. Even though the electricity may be off, they still can be a hazard.
Once you have returned home:
Throw away any food items that have been damaged by flood waters. If cans are dented, discard of them as well. Flood waters carry diseases and bacteria and can make you sick, even kill.
If water is questionable, boil or add bleach, and distill water before using. 


When it comes to flood safety you can never be too careful. You want to keep you and your loved ones as safe as possible. No one can stop Mother Nature's force, but we can do our best to cope with it. It is better to be prepared than scrambling in the aftermath of a disaster. And flood safety is the number one concern when it comes to natural disasters Most natural disasters cause some sort of flooding. Don't be left out in the cold. Get your flood safety materials beforehand. It can make a big difference.
