Pool Safety

Pool safety can be ensured with a few rules, some common sense, and a good pool safety fence.

Pool Safety

Many children die each year as a result of drowning, and they are, for the most part, accidents that could have been avoided with proper pool safety measures. Things like this happen much more quickly than we, as adults, assume and so we are often convinced that there is a good measure of pool safety when in reality there is not.

A pool fence is a must

Every family that has a pool in their backyard should have a pool fence, pool safety depends on it. Many cities even demand that every pool have them according to the law. If you have a pool and are not sure if your city has certain regulations regarding pool fence, you should check with your local authorities to make sure that your fence is up to par as different cities have different rules. All of them should be at least 4 feet tall so that the little ones cannot climb over. There should not be much space at the bottom either as children may try to crawl underneath and get into the pool. For proper pool safety the fence should also completely surround the pool and should only have entrance into the pool through child proof gates that are kept latched at all times.

Rules are key

There should be a list of all the pool rules hanging up in a place next to the pool for all to see, and they should always be enforced. Here are a few of them that should be on that list:

Pool safety is our responsibility as parents and caregivers, but it also depends on the children to follow the rules that have been set forth.
