Kitchen Appliances

Kids don't have the best judgment when it comes to safety. Let's be honest, kids have no judgment when it comes to safety. What you see as a useful, but potentially hazardous tool, they may see as an exciting new toy. The shininess of kitchen appliances attract kids like magnets and they want to play with them. They don't see the potential danger in a blender or an oven door or a coffee maker. When it comes to kitchen appliances, it's up to the adult of the house to keep the kids safe from said kitchen appliances and themselves. The worst accidents are the ones you can prevent from happening.

Kitchen Appliances And Safety
Stoves and Microwaves -- Obviously children should not be near these appliances, especially alone. Besides the obvious dangers of them being burned or potentially electrocuted, there are hidden hazards that we may not even think of. For instance, to us an oven door is just that, an oven door. But for a child walking or crawling around, there is the potential danger of them being hit by a falling oven door. The weight of the door can harm, injure and even kill a small child. This is a very preventable scenario.

Cabinets -- Swinging cabinet doors can give children bumps and bruises, but what's in the cabinets can be even more harmful. Household cleaners, poisons and other toxic chemicals are stored in cabinets close to the floor. The pretty colors may look tempting to a child, thinking it's something to drink. Most containers have childproof seals, but the best protection is prevention. Always keep an eye on your child.

Other kitchen appliances that can be potentially dangerous are the refrigerator, toaster, and yes, even something as simple as tables and chairs. When it comes to kitchen appliances don't take chances. Be safe, not sorry.
