The majority of residential fires are preventable. We could all benefit from some fire safety tips. Fire causes deaths and ruins lives every year, thus it is important that you take fire safety into your own hands to prevent a fire from occurring in your home.

Fire Safety Checklist
You may think that your home is safe but are you doing all you can to prevent a fire from starting in your home? Take a few moments to read through our fire safety checklist.

Check wattage of all bulbs
Replace old cords, plugs and outlets
Install fire alarm
Keep furniture away from electric outlets
Check all switches and electrical outlets
Never leave portable fans and heaters unattended
Never cover fans and heaters
Keep all heaters at a good distance from furniture, pictures etc.
Check fuse and circuit breaker box
Don't leave electric blankets unattended
Don't store fireworks or gas canisters in the home
Check all appliances regularly
Check everything in your garage is being stored correctly
Check all electrical appliances in your garage
Never leave candles or a fire unattended
Unplug electrical appliances when not in use as a precaution
Keep matches and lighters well away from children

There is no time like the present to activate your fire safety checklist. These fire safety tips really will make your home a safer place and give you valuable peace of mind. Holidays often bring extra fire risks at times when we are often distracted by festivities. Don't allow yourself to get complacent!
